FAQ’s

We are conveniently located one block north of Five Mile Road, on the west side of Beech Daly in Redford, MI.  This is one mile north of I-96 and one mile west of Telegraph Road.  You may park in either of our parking lots: the south lot (with an elevator at the entrance for easy handicap accessibility) or the north lot.

What time are your services?

Sunday mornings on campus begin with Sunday School for all ages at 9:30 am.  At 10:30 am a coffee fellowship affords an opportunity to make new friends or reconnect with old ones.  The morning worship service begins at 11 am.  During the school year, small groups meet throughout the week.  Wednesday Renewal Night happens at 6:30 pm, which is also the start time for our kids clubs and youth group (Student Union).

I haven’t been to church in quite a while.  Will I be welcome?

Yes!  We will do everything possible to show appreciation for braving the unknown.  Visiting a church can be unnerving.  We know what it feels like.  After all, at one time, each of us was a visitor!  Our hope is that you will find yourself better understanding God, sensing His love through us, and believing that you are better for being with us, as we believe we are better for being with you.

Do I have to be a member to participate?

No, you do not have to be a member to participate at Covenant.  We are a friendly church that eagerly desires to connect others to Christ.  Each of us is somewhere along our spiritual journey and we are privileged to be used by God to draw others into a right relationship with Him.  There are many benefits to being a member of a church and we would like to explore those with you, but you are more than welcome to participate in body life, even if you are not a member.

What is Covenant really like?

Covenant is a community of believers that come together for the common cause of Christ.  We welcome everyone, regardless of where they are in relation to Christ.  We are engaged and compassionate, serving and sending, loving and living as best we can the message of Jesus Christ.

What is the preaching like?

We take the privilege and responsibility of communicating God’s Word very seriously.  What God says to us in His Word is vital to fulfilling the purpose for which He created and saved us.  We examine a carefully chosen passage of Scripture verse-by-verse to interpret what God was saying to the original audience, and make relevant applications to our lives along the way.  Often, we handle whole books of the Bible in this manner.  As we investigate the issues raised by Scripture, we see how much is shared with ancient people and how unique the Bible is in speaking to the deepest needs of men, women and children of every generation.  This approach is helpful not only in understanding specific parts of Scripture, but also in gaining a bird’s eye view of the whole Bible as God’s love letter to us.

What kind of music will I hear at your church?

Worship is much more than music, though we find that it is an integral part of our expression and gratitude toward God. Therefore, we use a variety of styles to honor God and exalt Him. These range from the classic hymns of the faith to contemporary choruses. We have a gifted choir and able accompanists (keyboard, piano, brass, violin, etc.) who assist us in leading our hearts toward genuine and meaningful worship of God. “One Accord” praise team also contributes to our worship experience.

How should I dress?

You will find many different styles of dress at Covenant.  Attire ranges from suits and dresses to more casual clothing.  God is more concerned with your heart than your appearance, and so are we.

Is there anything for young families at your church?

We offer young adult Sunday school classes and classes for children of all ages.  We also provide various activities for young families.  Each year our church offers a Vacation Bible School, kids fun nights, and a Fall Festival event.  We participate in the annual Redford Memorial Day parade and also host a Labor Day picnic.

Do you have children’s programming?

We provide Sunday school and children’s church programs that are divided according to grade level.  We start at the nursery level and have offerings through high school.  We have an active puppet ministry made up of our junior and senior high students, which not only entertains, but informs and inspires children of all ages. We also have an active youth group, Student Union, that meets Wednesday evenings from 6:30 to 8:00 pm.

Do you have small groups?

Covenant is committed to the biblical truth that growth in grace requires nurture and accountability.  Small groups of God’s people provide excellent opportunities for this to take place.  Without minimizing our larger Sunday morning worship services where we worship God around His Word and the ordinances of baptism and the Lord’s Supper, we offer a number of smaller ministry settings throughout the week where one can take advantage of their many benefits.

What does Covenant believe about the Bible?

We believe that the Bible is the inspired Word of God.  It is God’s revelation that accurately and completely describes all that we need for life and godliness.  It was written over many years, by many human authors but all under the direct superintendence of the Holy Spirit and without error as originally written.  It is much more than a set of “do’s and don’ts”; it is the living Word of God that guides what we do as individual believers and how we conduct our church life.

What is the role of women?

Scripture shows that women played vital roles in the earthly ministry of Jesus and the growth of the early Church. Recognizing their continued worth today, we delight in helping women of all ages reach their potential in Christ, and offer many opportunities for them to lead and serve.

Do you have a “missions program”?

By God’s grace, Covenant’s missions program has been a bright spot in our Church’s life and ministry.  We take seriously the Great Commission (Matthew 28:18-20), whereby Jesus instructs His disciples to spread the Gospel, even to the regions beyond our community.  We support through finance and prayer, missionaries who serve vocationally in Africa, Asia, Europe, Latin America, and North America.  We also regularly send short-term mission teams.  These teams provide not only exposure to missions, but also carry on meaningful ministries both internationally as well as domestically.

Are you affiliated with a denomination?

We are a non-denominational church that believes the Bible is the Word of God and supplies all that we need for faith and practice.  We are not affiliated with a denomination.  A brief history of our heritage is explored elsewhere on the website.

Are you a Baptist Church?

Covenant is non-denominational, meaning that we have no organizational ties to any conference or association of churches.  We share many beliefs with our Baptist brothers and sisters in Christ, but our congregation consists of people from many Christian faith groups.

How can I get involved?

When Jesus wanted His first disciples to know and understand Him, He encouraged them, “come and you will see” (John 1:38-39).  We invite you to spend time getting to know us and being known in return.  This affords opportunities for you to hear our heart for God’s glory and the good of our community, and for us to listen to how He is working in your life.  There are many opportunities to discover answers to life’s questions, find peace in right relationships with Christ and others, grow in God’s grace, and be equipped to transform the world.

Are you handicap accessible?

Yes, every portion of our building is handicap accessible and we welcome those with special needs.  The elevator is found on the south side of the building, right at the main entrance on Student Street.  Every part of the building is accessible from that point, including the sanctuary and Myers Fellowship Hall.  The south parking lot has ramps as do the sidewalks leading up to the building.
